Ontario Veterinary College Veterinary Biobank, Guelph, Canada
Objective: Located at the University of Guelph, the Institute for Comparative Cancer Investigation (ICCI) manages a unique biobank: the Ontario Veterinary College Veterinary Biobank (OVCVB). OVCVB is a biorepository of specimens primarily from naturally occurring cancers in companion animals (dogs and cats), however the scope of the biobank is expanding to include other diseases and areas of interest. The most prevalent types of cancers in the CATSB are: hemangiosarcoma, osteosarcoma, mast cell tumours, lymphoma and soft tissue sarcoma. With client consent, samples are collected from patients of the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre and the Mona Campbell Centre for Animal Cancer. The OVCVB is a unique resource with the mission to facilitate basic, comparative, and translational research and complement preclinical rodent studies, thereby advancing the understanding of disease and improving treatment options to benefit both companion animal and human patients.
