AGE-HIV, Canada
Objective: AGE-HIV will be a prospective study that utilizes functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and single cell sequencing to capture the earliest signs of aging and airway damage, and demonstrate that PLWH have premature structural, functional, and cellular/molecular markers of lung injury. The study biobank will include blood, bronchial epithelial cells, and endobronchial biopsy samples. This biobank will allow researchers to have access to blood and bronchial samples without having to recruit additional participants and will prevent samples from going to waste. This may allow researchers to learn more about HIV, aging of the lungs and lung health in general and discover potential treatments.
