University of Ottawa Heart Institute Biobank of Human Samples for Research , Canada
Certification Status: Approved
Registration Status: Completed
Objective: The major purpose of this project is to develop a large biobank of de-identified blood, DNA and tissue samples that will be available for researchers studying cardiovascular disease. The goals are to obtain new information on “biomarkersâ€, including blood proteins and lipids, genetic variations in DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), RNA (ribonucleic acid) expression, that predispose to cardiovascular disease and/or its risk factors including dyslipidemia, obesity, diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Some of these biomarkers may also aid in the diagnosis of disease or in determining disease progression or in identifying the optimal treatment for different individuals.
