Mukherjee Lung Cancer Liquid Biopsy Project, Canada

Registration Status: Completed

Objective: Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is mutated DNA that is released from cancer cells. In patients who are diagnosed with lung cancer, ctDNA is possibly found in airway secretions and blood to be used as a biomarker for the detection of lung cancer recurrence after lung resection surgery. Nucleic acids are extracted from the peripheral blood, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), and sputum and digital PCR is subsequently used to detect ctDNA. This project aims to test the viability and feasibility of using this new biomarker for early detection of the recurrence of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
