Vancouver Brain Tumor Biobank, Canada

Registration Status: Completed

Objective: The purpose of Vancouver Brain Tumor Biobank (VBTB) is to serve as a resource for facilitating future clinical, molecular and genetic research studies that will expand our understanding of the biology of brain tumors. Such insights will be crucial in the scientific development of relevant treatments for these pathologies. VBTB will store fresh frozen and formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded brain tumor tissue samples, as well as blood and CSF specimens, from a wide spectrum of patients with intracranial neoplastic lesions, including primary tumors and metastatic lesions, with the intention of these samples being made available as a resource to researchers for REB-approved neuro-oncology projects in the future. In addition, live tissue will be used to derive patient-derived 2D and 3D cell models for performing functional assays.
