Objective: CBSR provides shipping, processing, storage, and retrieval of biological samples on a cost recovery basis for Investigators. Our capabilities and protocols are flexible and customizable to your individual project to ensure the samples collected are the samples you need. Our storage facility is highly secure with access logging, security cameras, temperature/environmental monitoring, and freezers connected to the university central alarm system. Ownership is retained by the Investigators who collected the sample; only they can authorize retrieval from our facility. The 831,600 samples stored at our facility are tracked using CBSR's own software, Biobank. Samples are given a unique identifier in software and assigned a location in our freezers. Biobank rapidly generates lists of requested samples so we can pull more than a thousand samples a day. Biobank is an open source collaboration between CBSR, & Ontario Health Services, available for free on GitHub along with several other open source tools we have developed.
