Australian Human Microbiome Biobank, Australia

Registration Status: Completed

Objective: At AHMB, we are building a globally accessible resource to drive microbiome-based health innovations. Our purpose-built, high-throughput cultivation platform enhances the recovery and growth of diverse microbial species under controlled atmospheric conditions. These microbes are cryopreserved in a secure biobanking facility, ensuring their long-term viability and availability to researchers and commercial partners worldwide. By combining cultivation with advanced genome sequencing, we offer a comprehensive catalogue of microbial strains with detailed genomic profiles, empowering researchers and industry partners to accelerate discoveries, deepen insights into microbial impacts on human health and support the development of microbiome-based health interventions.

User Type
  • Mono: A biobank that supports a specific research project, may have few staff members, a small-scale accrual scope with little to no initial intention of releasing or distributing biospecimens to secondary parties
  • Oligo: A biobank that supports several research groups or clinical trials, may or may not be designed to release biospecimens outside their collaborative group
  • Poly: A biobank that has generally a larger accrual scope, resources, and multiple users outside the biobank proper
